Lexus is a Japanese luxury car maker that produces luxury versions of Toyota vehicles. It is a division of Toyota that was founded in 1989. Lexus comes from a Toyota project to produce premium sedan F1, but later project evolved into own brand that produces luxury sedans, coupes, convertibles and SUVs. Until 2005 there were no Lexus brand in Japan because all vehicles were available under Toyota marque. Lexus also participates in various races. Company names models alphanumerically by using two letters followed by three digits. First letter indicates ranking in model range, second refers to body style (LS – luxury sedan, S – sedan or sport (LS and SC), X – luxury utility vehicle or SUV), digits indicates engine displacement multiplied by 100.
